The CCSS Legislative Breakfast will honor Presiding Justice Judith McConnell of the Appellate Court in San Diego as the recipient of the 2018 Civic Action Award. 

After the breakfast and plenary speaker session, pllease join us at the Governmental Relations Committee Confab session at 10:00am in the Sunset Room to strategize and organize for a stronger and more effective social studies curriculum at all grade levels.  The agenda will include current topics and issues in social studies such as state testing, impending legislation, new resources, and a national social studies update, but the larger part of the special session will be devoted to group discussion, ideas, and planning.

2018 Civic Action Award

Presiding Justice Judith McConnell of the Fourth Appellate District, Division One in San Diego will be honored at the CCSS Legislative Breakfast 2018. 

This annual award is presented to those persons or organizations in positions of governmental leadership who promote the cause of citizenship and history/social studies education and are thus leaders in advancing the goals of American civic society in their work. This year, the Governmental Relations Committee of the California Council for the Social Studies has selected Presiding Justice Judith McConnell in recognition of her leadership in civic education and advocacy of high quality citizenship and history/social studies education through her work with the California Civic Learning Task Force and the Power of Democracy organization.
