The California Council for the Social Studies invites members in good standing to run for open seats on the Board of Directors. This email contains information on open offices, qualifications for office,  a timeline, and where to go if you want to run for office or have questions.

As per organization bylaws the following seats are open for the 2019-20 year:

• President Elect
• First Vice President
• Northern Area Vice President
• Central Area Vice President
• Southern Area Vice President
• Region 1 Director (1 seat)
• Region 3 Director (2 seats; 1 is a one year seat)
• Region 4 Director (1 year seat)
• Region 5 Director (1 seat)
• Region 7 Director (1 seat)
• Region 9 Director (2 seats; 1 is a one year seat)
• Region 10 Director (1 year seat)
• Region 11 Director (2 seats; 1 is a one year seat)

Qualifications:

• Regional Director seats are open to all members in good standing who live or work in the regions with open seats. Regional Director seats are for terms of two years unless otherwise noted. One year seats are for the five regions with the greatest number of members in the previous year. Learn more about the regions here.
• Area Vice Presidents must have served on the CCSS Board of Directors for at least one year. These are one year seats. Area Vice Presidents are expected to attend the CCSS Planning Retreat the first weekend in May.
• First Vice President candidates must have served at least two years on the CCSS Board of Directors. This is a one year seat. The First Vice President is expected to attend the CCSS Planning Retreat the first weekend in May.
• President-Elect candidates must have served at least three years on the CCSS Board of Directors. This is a one-year seat. The President-Elect automatically becomes President for the next term. The President-Elect is expected to attend the CCSS Planning Retreat the first weekend in May.

Timeline:

• January 1-31: Call for Nominations
• February 1-10: Nominations Committee reviews nominations, determines if nominees are eligible. 
• February 10 - February 28: Nominees are notified and invited to prepare comments to present at San Jose Conference. 
• March 15-17: Candidates are encouraged to attend the Annual Conference in San Jose, share their prepared comments, and attend the Annual Meeting of CCSS at 4 pm on March 16. A final call for nominations is conducted at the Annual Meeting.
• March 16: Board of Directors Meeting. The final slate of candidates is presented to the Board for approval. 
• March 18 - April 5: Elections held online.
• April  5-12: Results are verified and winners notified.
